Introduction

In Part I, I explained the overall production workflow behind my AI fantasy short film Fall of the Tower, featuring two Ghanaian rivals, Kofi and Kwadwo, battling atop a collapsing stone tower.

In this second part, we'll explore the technical side of AI filmmaking, including character design consistency, image prompting, video generation, maintaining visual continuity, and creating cinematic scenes using Google Flow and Grok.

What You'll Learn

  • Character design workflows
  • Prompt engineering techniques
  • Maintaining image consistency
  • Creating cinematic video prompts
  • Controlling video tempo
  • Professional AI filmmaking workflows

The Most Important Rule: Design Characters First

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is generating scenes before creating dedicated character reference sheets.

This often causes:

  • Different faces in every scene
  • Changing hairstyles
  • Different armor designs
  • Inconsistent body proportions
  • Weapons changing between shots

Kofi Character Prompt

Ghanaian fantasy warrior, black African male, athletic heroic build, dark skin, full dreadlocks with faded sides, battle-damaged dark armor with glowing purple cracks, torn cloth elements, battle scars, mystical purple spear, glowing purple eyes, cinematic high-fantasy realism, Unreal Engine 5 quality, character turnaround sheet, front view, side view, back view, ultra detailed.

Kwadwo Character Prompt

Ghanaian fantasy warrior, black African male, tall muscular build, dark skin, dreadlocks with right side faded, large facial scar, battle-worn armor with glowing blue energy veins, giant longsword, glowing blue eyes, cinematic fantasy realism, character turnaround sheet.

Maintaining Character Consistency

AI image generators do not remember previous generations. Every image is effectively a new request.

To maintain consistency, always repeat:

  • Character name
  • Skin tone
  • Hairstyle
  • Armor description
  • Weapon description
  • Eye color
  • Energy color

Bad Prompt Example

Kofi holding his spear.

Better Prompt Example

Kofi, Ghanaian fantasy warrior with full dreadlocks and faded sides, battle-damaged armor with glowing purple cracks, holding his mystical purple energy spear.

Maintaining Visual Style Across Every Scene

Style drift is one of the most common AI filmmaking problems.

To avoid it, create a reusable style block and append it to every image prompt.

Reusable Style Block

Unreal Engine 5 quality, cinematic fantasy realism, volumetric lighting, movie-quality rendering, epic atmosphere, dramatic shadows, high-detail textures, heroic proportions, 3D animated film style, masterpiece composition.

Maintaining Environment Consistency

In Fall of the Tower, the tower itself acts like a third character. Maintaining environmental consistency is just as important as maintaining character consistency.

Environment Prompt Block

Massive broken stone tower above a devastated fantasy world, floating rubble, dust storms, collapsing architecture, dramatic clouds, epic atmosphere.

Character Kwadwo

Why the Film Was Divided Into 25 Shots

Instead of generating one long video, the project was split into twenty-five individual shots.

  1. One image prompt
  2. One image generation
  3. One video prompt
  4. One video clip

This method improves quality, consistency, and editing flexibility.

Controlling Video Tempo in Grok

Slow Cinematic Scenes

  • Slow camera push
  • Gentle orbit shot
  • Cinematic drift
  • Atmospheric movement
  • Slow-motion movement

Medium-Paced Scenes

  • Camera tracks alongside
  • Smooth follow movement
  • Controlled motion
  • Dynamic cinematic movement

Fast Action Scenes

  • Rapid acceleration
  • High-speed pursuit
  • Aggressive descent
  • Dynamic action camera
  • Debris rushing past

Recommended Aspect Ratios

YouTube Cinematic Films

FAQs

How many shots should an AI short film have?

Most short films work well with 15–30 individual shots for better control.

Can Google Flow's free plan be enough?

Yes, especially for image generation and storyboard creation.

Why use separate image and video tools?

It provides greater control over consistency and final visual quality.
